  • Configured one as a new VM server

  • Build storage configuration - NFS server for images (templates) and home dirs for all VMs

    • Lee has made copies of zone files and we have BIND on amber now as an authoritative server.
    • We should probably make sure buddyns has up-to-date contact info.

    • Joe B. Volunteers to do fix on Michelob, will get together with Gary M.

Recording Meetings

  • 2010-12
    • We have a voice recorder (VC) for recording meeting presentations and have posted some results on web site.
    • On 28 Oct Stan R suggested buying an additional VC so that there wouldn't be a single point of failure.
      • We forget who has it.
      • We forget to bring it.
      • We forget to turn it on.
      • We forget fresh batteries.
      • We forget how to turn it on.
      • We forget to free up space on it.
    • There was some STEERCOM list banter but nothing was brought up at 3 November Steering Committee meeting.
    • Alternative of video recording suggested, huge size of video files was mentioned.
    • Stan R passed voice recorder to Gary M on 18 November and doesn't want it back.
    • Noah volunteered an old Digital8 recorder.
  • 2011-01 Continued discussion, but no consensus.
  • 2011-02 Not discussed during IRC meeting.
  • 2011-03 Gary M returned voice recorder to Stan R before going to Florida.
    • Stan R needs to pull February 2011 STLLUG recording and post it (on Amber).
      • And email it to the speaker (Igor Gueths).
  • 2011-04 Stan R passed on voice recorder to Phil Bunch, who should be at next general meeting.
  • 2011-05 Phil B passed voice recorder back to Stan R.
  • 2011-05 Craig suggested getting another voice recorder (or 2), and extra batteries.

      • Either would be better than the current uncompressed format.

    • As long as they do not require Windows drivers.
    • Preferably record in OGG format, or MP3 at the least.

    • Jerry and Lee will research and purchase.

    • Much discussion about projectors. Jerry S will research available units.

    • Need to get him to post those to the official web sites.
  • 2012-02 Jerry has an associate who can help convert voice and video recordings to MP3 and Ogg.
  • 2012-03 Jerry has an associate working on conversions. No decision on new hardware.
  • 2012-04 Michael Jackson offers to voice record meetings and provide us with sound file.
    • We need to pull server boxes and build space.
  • 2012-05 Don says that at some point he will be able to upload what he has.

Web Site Suggestions

  • 2011-01 Mike Knight's emails regarding web site.
    • Stan R changed the copyright dates.
    • Good idea to list other Open Source friendly resources.
      • On a separate page from our own SIGs.
      • Sites like WITS, CVillage, Arch Reactor, 2600.
    • Our site layout has not changed for years.
      • Would take some effort to re-do it, and seems to be working for most people.
  • 2011-02 Stan R hasn't gotten around to building new resources page, yet.
  • 2011-03 No change.

  • 2011-05 No change.
  • 2011-06 There was brief discussion of implementing a CMS at the work party on 5/21. No decisions made.
  • 2011-07 Gary noticed Wayback machine has STOPPED archiving our server as of about May 2009.
    • It would be good to get resumption of archiving at Wayback.
      • How can we accomplish this? We don't know; so, we appointed Gary M. to find a way.

  • Previously, some educational institutions (other than UMSL) did not want to be listed.
  • Lee updated the SLUUG web site sponsors list

Pamphlets

  • 2012-04 - Stan R with considerable help from Christine Wanta has produced a pamphlet on Free Open Source Software (FOSS).
    • It should be very complementary to what we hawk at the St. Louis Business Expo Linux Booth.
      • The pamphlet has been added to the SLUUG Resources Handouts page
      • Another pamphlet is planned to highlight our Google calendar and list regular meeting days of the month.
      • Lee suggested a single page calendar poster also.
  • 2012-05 Stan R built new pamphlet for Calendar and Free Open Source Software (FOSS).
  • 2012-06 New pamphlets have been posted to our web site http://www.sluug.org/resources/handouts/
  • 2012-06 Stan will go to Lee's to print out some copies.
    • Good for handing out, especially at Business Expo.
  • 2012-06 Stan has more ideas.

    • Stan R. printed approximately 100 each of Calendar, FOSS, GNU/Linux for Beginners, and GNU/Linux Resources pamphlets.

    • Significant revision being made to the Password Guidelines for Beginners pamphlet before printing.
    • Suggested minor revisions will be made to FOSS pamphlet, stock on hand can be used.
    • Our General Information pamphlet will have to be revised before STL Business Expo.

Projector

  • 2012-05 We had previously agreed to buy one.
    • Would be great to possibly have a second projector at sites that already provide us with one.
    • ~$500 for WXGA Projector for Embedded SIG and meeting spare
  • Go ahead.
  • 2012-06 Have been unable to meet our criteria at the price point.
  • 2012-07 (late June) No report.
  • 2012-08 Gary Meyer purchased an older projector that he donated to us.

Additional Monitor

  • $200 for USB monitor for NUI meetings
  • Funded by NUI Capital Reserves
  • 2012-05 Consideration of alternate splitter, requested and approved.
  • 2012-06 Has been purchased.
  • 2012-07 (late June) No report.
  • 2012-08 Additional monitor was used at July meeting. Made viewing presentations a lot better.

JOBS Postings

  • Historically SLUUG had discouraged postings of jobs on our mailing lists.
    • Such job postings could be perceived as SPAM.
  • With drastically lower member employment, job postings have been considered acceptable.
  • Ideally SLUUG would offer something to paid sponsors and receive credit and compensation.
  • 2012-06 Jeff Muse volunteered to create a JOBS mailing list.
    • We'll also add an archive of the list on the web.
  • 2012-07 (late June) Jeff had indicated earlier that there were problems. Nothing additional reported.
