SLACC - May 7

  • SLACC usually holds a Linux configuration workshop - no presentation
    • Small groups covered different items.
    • Andrew L. determined that an incomplete installation session was why John Steinmeyer WiFi failed
      • Got him working, with Stan's USB WiFi adapter

      • Munin is a networked resource monitoring tool that can help analyze resource trends and "what just happened to kill our performance?" problems. It is designed to be very plug and play. A default installation provides a lot of graphs with almost no work. http://munin-monitoring.org/

  • Andrew has been applying updates
    • Ignoring Postfix until he understands our configuration.

    • Need to apply patches for recent vulnerabilities (Glibc, PHP)

    • Need to perform restart to enable kernel updates
    • Need to discuss update to more recent supported OS
    • Andrew proposes a weekend event to update & document the system
    • Perhaps migrate away from a legacy platform
    • Investigate Linode as new/additional location
    • These concepts will be pursued in an email thread on sysadmin list

      • Named "nick", after owner of Nick & Elena's who passed away
      • Will migrate functionality of Amber to it

Domain Name Tracking

  • STLWEBDEV.ORG was renewed in December.
  • STLLINUX.ORG was renewed in January.
  • SLUUG.ORG will need to be renewed in July.

Internet Presence (Social Media)

  • Gary and Craig asked to reconsider MEETUP.COM.
    • It's a place to find meetings.
    • It does cost money ($12 / month).
    • It helps attendees of similar groups find our group.
    • DECISION: We'll ask for volunteers on DISCUSS to "own" the group.
    • Craig - Contact Ed Schneider about MEETUP.COM Group creation and maintenance.
