-On budlight, we have recently (May 2009) added Clariion DAE (http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/stor-sys/dae/fcdae/fchardwr.pdf). The enclosure has an EMC label on itbut the documentation we have is for the same device rebranded and resold through Dell. We have it connected to budlight via QLogic ql2100 HBA. The Clariion has 10 bayseach with a 36G FCAL drive.  +More recently (early 2009?another member donated Sun Enterprise 250This machine has 2G of RAM, 2 400 Mhz CPUs, a quad NICand six 36G SCSI drives. Ittoo, has dual PSUs. - +===== Firmware Configuration (Compaqs only) =====
-To make budlight see the drives in the DAE, we needed to install the qlogic-firmware package. +
- +
-<code root> +
-# apt-get install firmware-qlogic +
-</code> +
- +
-After a rebootbudlight saw /dev/sd[a-j] +
- +
-We have assembled the drives into a RAID-5 array with one hot spare. This should give us roughly 300G, which is a huge increase in available storage. +
- +
-The assembly command is: +
- +
-<code root> +
-# mdadm --create /dev/md0 --level=5 --raid-devices=9 --spare-devices=1 /dev/sd[a-j]1 +

+==== Firmware Configuration (Bud and BudLight) ====
To configure the RAID array and the hardware, we had to download, burn, and boot the HP SmartStart CD. [[http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/22678.html | SmartStart version 5.50]] is required for these systems. SmartStart 7.x does NOT support these systems. To configure the RAID array and the hardware, we had to download, burn, and boot the HP SmartStart CD.  +Configuring RedHook required [[http://h18004.www1.hp.com/products/servers/management/core-management-100.html | SmartStart version 7.1]].

+Configured drive array with 4 hard drives in a RAID 5 set, then applied LVM to the array.
 +
+To run the Compaq System Configuration Utilities, we inserted the CD in the CD-ROM drive and booted the system. When the system failed to boot, at the prompt "Press F1 to continue, F10 to run System Partion" (System Partition utility in Windows started but failed to run), pressing F1 resulted in successful boot from the CD.

-The power supply fans on budlight would not start up when we installed the systems at Primary Networks. The BIOS POST noticed this (reported them as fans #5 and #6) and prevented the system from booting. We removed the fan module (which attaches behind the power supply) and re-seated it. The BIOS POST noticed this (reported them as fans #5 and #6) and prevented the system from booting. We removed the fan module (which attaches behind the power supply) and re-seated it. The system then started fine. The fan problem has proved to be an ongoing issue.
 +
+On RedHook, battery for RAID array accelerator card was low on first startup, and is attempting to charge. Will check later to see if it gives good indication.

+RedHook initial attempt to boot with Compaq System Configuration Utilities version 8.6 was unsuccessful (once we were successful at selecting the CD as boot source). Download page and ISO filename indicated 32 bit kernel, but CD refused to boot with indication it was using a 64 bit kernel. Fixed problem by downloading SmartStart v7.1 disk (see above for URL).
