  • Fixed GoldenWheat (1U server)
  • Acquired 2x2U Dell and 2x2U IBM sets of HW
  • Configured one as a new VM server

  • Finalize Network (openvswitch isn't happy with linux 3.1), Web GUI, Host monitoring/management configurations
  • Build storage configuration - NFS server for images (templates) and home dirs for all VMs
  • Validate Web GUI functionality

  • Attempt p2v of Amber so updates can be tested before pushing to production

  • 2010-07 - Renewed SLUUG.ORG domain during 9 July migration work party.
  • 2011-08 - EveryDNS migration to DynDNS caught us unprepared. Craig moved us to buddyns.
    • Lee has made copies of zone files and we have BIND on amber now as an authoritative server.
    • We should probably make sure buddyns has up-to-date contact info.
  • 2011-12 Michelob is dead.
    • Joe B. Volunteers to do fix on Michelob, will get together with Gary M.
  • 2012-02 Lee installed Webalizer on the new servers, per Stan R's request.
  • 2012-03 Stan R is getting some technical response of his email problem.
    • Much discussion of Mike Knight's research and possible work around.
    • Don and Gary did some testing using Apple mail clients, with results showing same problems.
  • 2012-04 Need to run updates on AMBER or plan for alternate virtual install to migrate over.
  • 2012-05 Jeff Muse updated AMBER HTTPS cert.
    • Altho we believed the change would only effect that, unexpectedly, Gary's Apple eMAIL client complained about the certificate on IMAP.
  • 2012-06 Noah got 3 new servers up at Hostirian.
    • Bud (replacement) - 600 GB storage array
      • Storage for VMs
      • Storage for media (audio/video recordings of meetings)

    • DNS was broken because of zone file configuration error on 20 August.
    • BuddyNS stopped resolving after 30 days.

    • Mike Knight suggested extending size of root bash history.
  • Mike Knight testing of timestamps for root bash history ran into some problems.
    • Mike Knight is authorized to continue this investigation and remediation.
  • 2012-11 Lee recycled the old Compaq ProLiant 6400s.
  • 2012-12 Vim config was messed up temporarily.
    • Don had gotten the config for backup files wrong.
    • We need to be sure to notify the group and document any changes we make.

Web Site Suggestions

  • 2011-01 Mike Knight's emails regarding web site.
    • Stan R changed the copyright dates.
    • Good idea to list other Open Source friendly resources.
      • On a separate page from our own SIGs.
      • Sites like WITS, CVillage, Arch Reactor, 2600.
    • Our site layout has not changed for years.
      • Would take some effort to re-do it, and seems to be working for most people.
  • 2011-02 Stan R hasn't gotten around to building new resources page, yet.
    • Noticed .PNG file doesn't show up on old county library browsers. Do we have .JPG file anywhere?
    • Not discussed during IRC meeting.

  • 2011-06 There was brief discussion of implementing a CMS at the work party on 5/21. No decisions made.
  • 2011-07 Gary noticed Wayback machine has STOPPED archiving our server as of about May 2009.
    • It would be good to get resumption of archiving at Wayback.
      • How can we accomplish this? We don't know; so, we appointed Gary M. to find a way.

      • Lee pointed out that advanced users may pull RSS that would not see the "off-Google" lines.

Pamphlets

  • 2012-04 - Stan R with considerable help from Christine Wanta has produced a pamphlet on Free Open Source Software (FOSS).
    • It should be very complementary to what we hawk at the St. Louis Business Expo Linux Booth.
      • The pamphlet has been added to the SLUUG Resources Handouts page
      • Another pamphlet is planned to highlight our Google calendar and list regular meeting days of the month.
      • Lee suggested a single page calendar poster also.
  • 2012-05 Stan R built new pamphlet for Calendar and Free Open Source Software (FOSS).
  • 2012-06 New pamphlets have been posted to our web site http://www.sluug.org/resources/handouts/
  • 2012-06 Stan will go to Lee's to print out some copies.
    • Good for handing out, especially at Business Expo.
  • 2012-06 Stan has more ideas.

    • Stan R. - printed approximately 100 each of Calendar, FOSS, GNU/Linux for Beginners, and GNU/Linux Resources pamphlets.
    • Minor spacing revisions have been made to the GNU/Linux for Beginners pamphlet, stock on hand can be used.
    • Significant revision being made to the Password Guidelines for Beginners pamphlet before printing.
    • Suggested minor revisions will be made to FOSS pamphlet, stock on hand can be used.
    • Our General Information pamphlet will have to be revised before STL Business Expo on 16 October.
  • 2012-09 Lee will update and send on to Stan R.
  • 2012-10 Stan has 100 of each, but needs to continue working on the "General" pamphlet.
  • 2012-11 Stan doesn't have any more pamphlets.
    • Gary McGee might have ended up with the remaining.

    • Gary McGee returned pamphlets to Stan R.
    • We have at least 80 of each.
    • Will take them to the upcoming SBE event at the library.
  • 2013-01 Stan R. - gave available folded pamphlets to Gary M. There were only about 30 to 40 each (not 80) on hand.
    • At the Bat Cave Stan R. - printed 100 each of the 3 topical pamphlets (Beginner, Calendar, FOSS). Yet to be folded.
  • 2013-02 Stan will redo 2 of the older brochures.
  • 2013-03 Stan working on these for the business expo.

Penguins

  • 2012-09 Gary bought some Penguins and gave one out as gift to STLLUG presenter last month.
  • 2012-10 Gary still has more penguins. Considering giving them away at SBE.
  • 2012-11 Gary will give these out as speaker prizes.
  • 2013-01 Gary still has penguins to give away. Jeff will not give presentation SLUUG 2013/01 without a penguin.
    • Finally, someone got a penguin!
  • 2013-02 Gary - bring the penguins.
  • 2013-03 Gary brought a penguin for Craig to give to Jessica.
  • 2013-04 Jess got her penguin. Only place with more penguins in the area is the zoo.

Reconsider MEETUP.COM

  • Gary and Craig asked to reconsider MEETUP.COM.
    • It's a place to find meetings.
    • It does cost money ($12 / month).
    • It helps attendees of similar groups find our group.
    • DECISION: We'll ask for volunteers on DISCUSS to "own" the group.
  • 2013-03 Craig to take this up.

    • Need volunteer to maintain and publicize!

STLLUG Meetings

  • ISSUE: Suggestion that we do a meeting or two with the WebDev crowd possibly at Savvis. Craig to check his contacts.
  • Omnitec was Pizza sponsor in May, need to attract others!
  • 2013-07 SBS Creatix sponsored pizza and soda at the June meeting.

Uploading Presentations

    • ISSUE: Don Ellis has been recording many of the meetings. Where/When/How can he start uploading.
    • NEED: Volunteer to setup media storage on one of the SLUUG machines at Hostirian.
  • 2013-07 Lee found we have some space to store media.

    • Gary M. suggesting we may be able to have table/ liturature available
