  • 2012-04 Will need to check out WebDev site stlwebdev.org
  • 2012-05 Gary M suggests calendar page to highlight OUR, i.e. SLUUG's mtngs.
    • After all, part of the idea of maintaining the calendar is to drive traffic to our own mtngs!
      • Could be highlights on the Google calendar itself &/or additional 1-2 lines written outside the Google calendar.
      • Lee pointed out that advanced users may pull RSS that would not see the "off-Google" lines.

SLUUG Web Site Alternative Offers

  • FYI Webalizer report.
  • Both Noah Lance and Craig Buchek have worked on "new" web pages in the past.
  • 2014-03: Scott Granneman indicated our current web site sucks for mobile users.
    • He proposed we switch over to using their service for minimal monthly fee.
    • They would redesign the site for us and host on their CMS.
    • Learning to manage content on their CMS shouldn't be significant.
      • Harry (John) Hodges of Graybar offered assistance.
  • 2014-03: Our needs:
    • We have 2 web sites that we need to update.
    • Better appearance
      • Especially on mobile
    • Easier to maintain
      • Web interface
      • Easier for multiple people to edit
    • Our on-going issue is finding people to find the time to help.
  • 2014-03: Andrew's proposal:
    • First, redesign static content of existing site(s)
      • LUG first, then UUG page
      • Using Bootstrap CSS framework (helps with mobile)
    • Second, use Monstra (static site builder with no DB required)
  • 2014-03: Steering committee decided to go with Andrew's proposal for now.
    • Keeps our current hosting.
    • Smaller incremental changes, that we're more comfortable with.
    • More done by our members.
  • 2014-08

Publicity

  • 2014-03
    • The SLUUG calendar is being referenced at other groups.
      • It's a nice way for us to keep our name out there.
    • The Google Plus group is also helping a bit.
  • 2014-04 No discussion.
  • 2014-08

Pamphlets

  • 2012-04 - Stan R with considerable help from Christine Wanta has produced a pamphlet on Free Open Source Software (FOSS).
    • It should be very complementary to what we hawk at the St. Louis Business Expo Linux Booth.
      • The pamphlet has been added to the SLUUG Resources Handouts page
      • Another pamphlet is planned to highlight our Google calendar and list regular meeting days of the month.
      • Lee suggested a single page calendar poster also.
  • 2012-05 Stan R built new pamphlet for Calendar and Free Open Source Software (FOSS).
  • 2012-06 New pamphlets have been posted to our web site http://www.sluug.org/resources/handouts/
  • 2012-06 Stan will go to Lee's to print out some copies.
    • Good for handing out, especially at Business Expo.
  • 2012-06 Stan has more ideas.
    • Troubleshooting

  • 2012-08

    • Minor spacing revisions have been made to the GNU/Linux for Beginners pamphlet, stock on hand can be used.
    • Significant revision being made to the Password Guidelines for Beginners pamphlet before printing.
    • Suggested minor revisions will be made to FOSS pamphlet, stock on hand can be used.
    • Our General Information pamphlet will have to be revised before STL Business Expo on 16 October.

  • 2012-10 Stan has 100 of each, but needs to continue working on the "General" pamphlet.
  • 2012-11 Stan doesn't have any more pamphlets.
    • Gary McGee might have ended up with the remaining.
  • 2012-12
    • Gary McGee returned pamphlets to Stan R.
    • We have at least 80 of each.
    • Will take them to the upcoming SBE event at the library.
  • 2013-01 Stan R. - gave available folded pamphlets to Gary M. There were only about 30 to 40 each (not 80) on hand.
    • At the Bat Cave Stan R. - printed 100 each of the 3 topical pamphlets (Beginner, Calendar, FOSS). Yet to be folded.
  • 2013-02 Stan will redo 2 of the older brochures.
  • 2013-03 Stan working on these for the business expo.
  • 2013-09 No movement.
  • 2014-01
    • No movement.
  • 2014-03
    • Stan is burnt out.
  • 2014-04
    • SLUUG pamphlets are available on our Resources/Handout page.
    • Pamphlets built with Scribus are being converted to LibreOffice Writer format in order to use more familiar editing features.
    • Single remaining Scribus based pamphlet titled Password Guidelines for Beginners will be converted later.
    • Pamphlet source .ODT documents are uploaded along side corresponding .PDF files (just not listed on web page).
    • Created 1 new pamphlet titled Why Use Linux? We should expect that the narratives currently used will be changed.
    • Updated 3 other pamphlets, Calendar, FOSS, and GNU/Linux for Beginners.
    • The Password Guidlines for Beginners and GNU/Linux Resources pamphlets are being worked on.
    • No progress has been made to adapt ideas in Christine Wanta's handout from last year. Has good points that need to be adapted.
    • Nothing has been done to review or update the SLUUG general information handout.
    • Would like to print 100 each of the (4) new and updated pamphlets to have on hand for 8 April STL Business Expo.
    • We expect that last minute spacing adjustments will be required to match printer alignment for nice folding.
  • 2014-05
    • SLUUG pamphlets are available on our Resources/Handout page. The source .ODT files are availible in same location (just change .PDF to .ODT to download).
    • The GNU/Linux Resources pamphlet has been updated.
    • The Why Use Linux pamphlet has also been updated, incorporating suggestions from members.

Projector

  • 2014-06
    • We have a new ViewSonic projector and Penguin case.
      • Resolution: 1080P
      • Connectors: HDMI, VGA, S-Video, RCA
    • Stan R. took it from STEERCOM to SLAAC.
  • 2014-07
    • Used at SLACC meeting ~ one of attendees inadvertantly unplugged before cool down cycle completed.
    • Used at SLUUG meeting ~
    • Used at STLLUG meeting ~ new HDMI cable placed in case.
    • Used at HZWLUG meeting ~ stan r. was unable to get HDMI cable working with ALIENWARE M11 laptop.
    • Observations:
      • Documentation is pretty and very convoluted and obtuse.
      • Factory default had cool down turned off! Had to turn that on, now uses full 60 second cool down.
      • The hand controller is somewhat easier to use than on-the-box buttons.
      • The hand controller uses InfraRed and works only from front.
      • The hand controller brings up menus that then require (counter intuitive) right-or-left selection.
      • Overall attendees at each meeting are very impressed with resolution and some even want one for home use.
    • As of now, Stan R. has the projector.
