STEERCOM - Steering Committee - December 1

SLACC - December 4

  • SLACC usually holds a Linux configuration workshop - no presentation

SLUUG - December 10

    • BASE: Upgrading SuSE by Lee Lammert
      • Stan was sick ~ didn't make it to the meeting.
    • MAIN: VPNs: OpenVPN v. IPsec by Andrew Latham
      • Good, but probably over many people's heads.

Hazelwood - December 16

  • HZWLUG topics are usually determined by attendees. We usually cover more than one topic.
    • Scheduled one week earlier than usual, because of holiday.
      • Demo of TorSync and Syncthing (Pulse)
      • Installed Linux Mint 17.1 on new attendee's laptop

SNUG - December 17

  • SNUG is the St. Louis Novell Users Group lunch time meeting.
  • TOPIC: ZenWorks
    • Terrible - worst in years
    • Canned (live) video presentation
      • Too many buzzwords, too much of a sales pitch, no technical content.

Bowling Night

  • Yearly meeting of non-athletics to roll a ball down a lane and argue about emacs and vi
  • 7pm - 10pm
  • Moolah Lanes look at the calendar it is likely correct

STLLUG - December 18

  • STLLUG is the St. Louis Linux Users Group.
  • TOPIC: Old Hardware day! Bring an old laptop and lets make it work with Linux "Power cords not optional"
    • Ken Johnson presented on CoLinux (Linux on Windows)
      • Good - nice style
    • Stan R. installed Linux Mint 17.1 on Ted Palmer's laptop ~ no other installs done by anybody else.
    • More group discussion than normal.

Old Business

Server Admin

  • Andrew has been applying updates
    • Ignoring Postfix until he understands our configuration.

Web Site Maintenance

  • Andrew still needs to finish up some stuff.

Uploading Presentations

  • Andrew uploaded many presentations and linked them via the sites.
    • Much more work needs done.
  • Need to figure out how to get the slides published along with video.
  • Need to get more old presentations uploaded.

Domain Name Tracking

  • STLWEBDEV.ORG was renewed in December.

Internet Presence (Social Media)

  • Gary and Craig asked to reconsider MEETUP.COM.
    • It's a place to find meetings.
    • It does cost money ($12 / month).
    • It helps attendees of similar groups find our group.
    • DECISION: We'll ask for volunteers on DISCUSS to "own" the group.
    • Craig - Contact Ed Schneider about MEETUP.COM Group creation and maintenance.
    • Possible meetup volunteer - Brian Bilgere

Pamphlets

  • Stan has continued updating pamphlets.
  • Don Weimann has been printing pamphlets when Stan R. asks for them.

Penguin Honorarium

  • Andrew gave Gary a few more small penguins to pass out to guest presenters.

Projector

  • Andrew added a remote control for presentations
    • It's in the projector case.

STLLUG Location

  • Current St. Louis Linux Users Group (STLLUG) location is inconvenient, probably turning people off
  • Craig spoke w/ Brian Button about hosting at CenturyLink.
  • Craig spoke w/ Jessie Jackson of SBS Creatix about having her talk to CenturyLink.
  • Venture Cafe will provide free beer for meetings hosted there.
    • They're only open Thursdays from 3 PM to 8 PM.
    • Didn't seem to be much interest from our group.

Nomination Committee

  • Gary and Stan were volontold to be the nominating committee.
    • They're working on determining which board seats are open.

New Business

St. Louis Linux Users Group for Seniors

  • Stan has started up the St. Louis Linux Users Group for Seniors (SLUGS).
    • Asked if we should make it an official SLUUG SIG.
      • Consensus was YES.
  • Monthly meetings scheduled on every 2nd Friday, 1PM~3PM, at St. Louis County Library Prairie Commons Branch.
  • The room fees of $80 have been paid up through August.
    • Stan asked if he could be reimbursed for this.
      • Consensus was YES.

Anything Else?

  • There's a site using our calendar without our permission.
    • They're not including official SLUUG events.
    • They're not attributing our work to us.
    • Gary is going to talk to a lawyer.
    • We changed our calendar to include our name in all events in the calendar.

Recognize Useful Efforts

  • Stan converted the St. Louis County Older Computer Users group to a Linux group.

Blue Sky Ideas

  • Ken mentioned that Missouri has 2 kinds of non-profit corporations:
    • Standard corporation
    • Benevolent Corporation
      • Created by a circuit judge
      • No annual fee
      • Runs in perpetuity
      • Would require talking to a lawyer

Recurring Requirements

  • February 2015 - Renew STLLINUX.ORG domain.
  • February 2015 - SLUUG annual Board meeting and elections.
  • April 2015 - First Saturday, reserve rooms at St. Louis County Library Branches.
  • May 2015 - IRS Form 990-N for Tax Exempt Status.
  • June 2015 - BuddyNS SLUUG account due.
  • July 2015 - Renew SLUUG.ORG domain with Dotster.
  • August 2015 - Missouri Annual Report for Corporate Legal Status.
  • October 2015 - First Saturday, reserve rooms at St. Louis County Library Branches.
  • December 2015 - Transfer and renew STLWEBDEV.ORG domain.
