  • Secretary has not printed minutes since June.

Treasurer Report

  • Bank account has been transferred from Bank of America to Regions.
  • Balance: $1375.59 as of 1/5/2010
  • Income for 2010-01: $14 collected for room fees
  • Expenditures for 2009-12:
    • ~$52 for Compaq fans (Carl needs to submit receipt)
  • Lee has taken in new signature cards for the Region.
  • Lee will be ordering checks.

Elections

  • There are 2 board seats expiring:
    • Craig Buchek
    • Barry Morrison
  • Craig and Jerry volunteered to run for the open board seats.
  • Noah volunteered to run for the STCLUG chair.
  • Craig will print out ballots.
    • Doesn't have a way to get the ballots to the SLACC meeting.

Annual Meeting February 10

  • Per bylaws, we have an official annual meeting on February 10.
  • Members may bring up any business.

Domains

  • Gary will add Craig as 3rd contact for SLUUG.ORG domain.
  • Carl and Gary - follow up with Noel about transferring the SLACC.COM domain to us.
    • Noel asked that we allow current email users to keep their SLACC.COM email addresses.
  • Craig will renew STLLINUX.ORG and update to show 3 names in WHOIS data.

Server Admin

  • Bud Light is still offline.
  • Noah has a server we can use.
    • IBM X325, dual P4 Xeon 2.8 GHz, 2x72 GB.
    • Name: Golden Wheat
    • Craig will get with Noah to install the system.
  • Work left to do:
    • Ongoing: Make sure docs are up to date.

Membership (and Shell Accounts)

  • Jerry Stutte is writing an app to manage membership.
  • Membership application now running on BUD. When more mature Jerry will do a tutorial or presentation.
  • Need more membership forms printed.

SLCL Room Reservations

  • Process has changed. Limited to 6 months. Next round may be first Saturday in April.
  • Reserving a meeting room now done on line - http://www.slcl.org/services/reserve.htm
  • Payment required within 14 days, or we lose reservation.
  • To avoid problems, payments need to be made separately to each SLCL Branch.

Wash U Cleanup

  • Jerry Stute, Jeff Muse, and Eric Xu volunteered to cleanup Wash U site.
  • Gary Meyer is Captain.
  • Captain Gary Meyer still AWOL. Search party has not reported back.

IRC Channel

  • Charles Sharp created an IRC channel on irc.freenode.net.
  • Channel is named #sluug.
  • Typically 7 people on at times.
  • Would like to have someone give a tutorial on using IRC, and show off our channel.
  • Craig suggested that we include the IRC channel in Steering Committee meetings.
    • Will be hard to figure out the best way to get the online folks to participate.
  • Stan will put the IRC channel info up on the web site.
  • Stan will put the IRC channel info on ANNOUNCE messages.

Purge SYSADMIN mailing list

  • Stan would like us to clean up the SYSADMIN mailing list, to eliminate people who have not been active for the past year.
    • We decided to send a message out to the list, asking who wants to stay on the list. Then we can remove folks that are not staying active.

New Attendance Sheets

  • Stan made new attendance sheets for:
    • SLACC, STEERCOM, SLUUG, STLLUG, STCLUG, and HZWLUG
    • Yet to do: STLOSUG and SNUG, and groups on HIATUS.

New Business

  • SBE
    • March 18 @ St. Charles Convention Center
    • Lee will organize.
  • Craig has been adding some packages to his server; would be willing to add them to SLUUG servers.
    • fail2ban - temporarily ban IPs that have too many SSH failures (unanimous agreement)
    • fcheck - file integrity checker - emails files that changed since last time run
    • logcheck - email anomalous log entries
    • munin - monitoring of system details
    • awstats - web stats
  • Carl recommended using one of the Sun Netras as a log server.
  • Craig wondered if we could put sudo back on Bud.
    • Configure it to require root password instead of user's own password.
    • Will follow up on SYSADMIN list.
  • Craig wondered if we could start applying the patches pending for Bud.
    • There are a lot of patches pending now, including kernel and security fixes.
    • We have some concern with DNS patches, but Craig has applied them on his systems without issues.
    • Will follow up on SYSADMIN list.

Blue Sky

  • Speculate on events, plans, policy, procedures, projects.
  • Noah has been helping the Arch Reactor hacker space.
    • 904 Cherokee in the old Lemp Brewery
    • Meeting every Tuesday at 7:30 PM.
    • Frequently open at other times by members.
    • How can we best cross-polinate?
    • Great place for hands-on projects.
      • Arduino projects
      • Robotics
      • Arts and crafts
      • Costume building

Recognize Useful Efforts

  • Recognize completed action items, and other useful actions.
  • Jeff Muse has been working on the Michelob sendmail problem.
    • On January 21 (3:00 AM) Michelob suddenly stopped allowing SMTP from Bud.

  • Gary - add Craig as 3rd contact for SLUUG.ORG domain.
